In my case, an inexplicable passion for aviation took me over at around the age of five and since then the intensity has remained the same. How did that happen?

Things seemed to be the usual that Sunday morning back in 1982, which was the day that my life would change direction. My sister was at the ballet class, my dad was watching the football games as he was doing every Sunday and mum was preparing lunch. Unexpectedly, my uncle turned to me and asked me if I would like to follow him in a little adventure.

 

I couldn’t resist the invite and 30 minutes later I found myself flying from Athens to Rhodes in a small plane, sitting in cockpit with the pilots! There’s no way I will ever forget my emotions looking at the flag indicators and that red led beacon which caught my attention since I entered the cockpit. Flying thousands of meters above the land and the sea really stimulated my whole existence.

It was a short 45 minute flight but enough to inspire my life. The biggest surprise of all was to be permitted to hold the control grip! Without any doubt, that moment was the one that everything happened. Unlike most kids of my age, after that incident I always knew what I would like to do in my life.

Whether I would have became a pilot without the experience of that day is something I cannot definitely answer. Becoming a pilot was just a question of time. I have met some ‘leaders’ who want to get their own way by yelling and bullying, but they don’t usually last long and don’t create pleased staff .

Many of us seem to have that experience of leaders as being aggressive and howling, but would you consider that excellent leadership ?

Some people appear to have been giving Obama a hard time for a while , but few people could really doubt his ability to inspire. If things aren’t going great , people tend to blame the leader, even though they may have not much to do with it!

Yet the mark of a awe inspiring leader is someone who holds on to his principles and ideals no matter what other people might do to dissuade them . Being liked is not the issue for the leader, but wanting the best for others who follow them is crucial.
